This is a great sign to see when you’ve been gone on any trip. It is always good to come home!

This is fantastic view of what we saw all the way across the state of Iowa. Starting to see a few more trees along the interstate than we saw in Nebraska.

Got out of Omaha a little later as planned. Wanted to avoid the morning rush hour. We were still a little numb after our experience with the Friday afternoon rush hour up in Calgary. Beautiful morning. Nice temps and no wind. A little more humid today. Easy ride through Omaha. We had an absolutely wonderful time last night at Norm’s sister-in-law’s place with her, her husband and their 4 daughters that showed up in a serial fashion with a few of their kids. What a wonderful family. Janet fixed an exquisite meal of us as she did on our way up to Alaska. We had one of my favorites. osso bucco along with a complete gourmet meal.
The bike today started out pretty good. Picked up some wind as we got into Iowa, but it was all in our favor. By the time we half way between Des Moines and Iowa City, the temps were really heating up into the high 80’s and the wind had shifted to totally out of the south with a 15-25 mph gusting cross wind. Stopped to see my daughter, Erin, who is an RN on the oncology unit at the University of Iowa Hospital. It was a treat to see her. She just completed her first Triathalon last weekend…and finished…yeah! The rest of the bike into Peoria was nothing but heat, wind and determination. It was good to be home. I think that it is going to take the both of us a few days just to unwind and try to get our wits about us and get our feet on the ground.
